CONTROLS: JUST PRESS ANY BUTTON TO STEER
Simple 1button racing-mayham game. Prototype stage. Just a bunch of separate levels.

SEIZURE WARNING!

MOTION SICKNESS WARNING!

LOUD NOISE WARNING!

The game currently contains a lot of effects which cannot yet be disabled. This is a prototype. Future installments will allow to disable most effects!

Thank you for checking out this prototype! Please provide feedback if you have any!

SHUT UP AND DRIFT!

A nuke is coming. And the panic hits you.
The pedal hits the metal. And the panic grips you.
You grip the wheel. And the wheel rips apart.
Now you can only steer:
With a single key.

Can you outdrift the nuke before the time runs out?

How to play etc.:

CONTROLS: JUST PRESS ANY BUTTON TO STEER. YES. ONLY ONE BUTTON.

The game interal files currently go by "DriveSurvive".

Click on the START sign and choose one of the stages (I recommend starting with practice, because getting the hang of the controls will take some amount of practice, but you'll figure it out; or just drive around the menu screen).

Most stages have a definitive finish. Only Kansei Thefto (a secret game mode from the original Kansei Drifto and the inspiration for this prototype) goes on indefinitely.

Some stages have a hidden time limit. If you explode for no reason, it's probably because you ran out of time before reaching the finish line.

The HUD shows a lot of stuff, the only important thing atm is your health (Integrity) at the bottom left corner. Some elements (gasoline, limit, level) have no implementation yet. None of the scores carry any meaning yet.

There is not much performance optimization as of yet. Getting a lot of police on the screen can slow down the game quite a bit.

About & Future Plans:

Initially, this was just meant to be a study in "bing bang wahoo" (stimulating vfx and such), as well as "making a car game feel fast". My idea is to create a simple single-player mayham focused one button car-pg roguelite... thing, basically a chaotic mashup of all kinds of fun (mostly car/speed related) themes, memes and games, with fast driving, upgrades and tons of explosions. To give you an overview of what I'm currently scoping out:

  • top down action
  • bullet hell/swarm survival
  • random mission selection after each stage; side missions
  • upgrades, tuning, vehicle variety, unlockables
  • 3 layers of character rpg progression: the driver, the car(wai)fu, the passengers
  • abilities: both short term (temporary) and long term upgrades

There are of course other things I'm looking at, like 3D models, different stages/environments.

A normal gameplay session should last between 15 and 30 minutes. With a single stage taking between 1 to 5 minutes.

It looks pretty sweet. Having only drift direction change control is interesting, but it kind of works in a flappy bird way.

Avoiding cars is impossible for me. I can somehow avoid the first few, but then they are so densely packed on the road I can only crash into them. Once you hit something then it goes out of control because of the bouncing. Is there a way to lose speed without losing integrity? It would be more elegant to put emphasis on losing speed setback rather than integrity.

Heist seemed pretty good because I suck at avoiding, but shooting adds the positioning incentive for the drift.

I'd like to see what it plays like on curved roads.

Hey, thanks for the feedback :>

That was exactly what I was expecting. The learning curve is pretty steep and the car spirals out of control easily. The original game was indeed based on flippy bird mechanics, so you'd crash instantly.

I am experimenting with ways to lose speed. For instance you'd lose speed when turning and gain when keeping the direction or vice versa. But I'm not satisfied yet. But the car is also still set to top speed.

Using cars or the wall to slow has been on my mind as well, similar to Cannabalt iirc. But I haven't yet implemented the rpg system or health items. So you'd be able to strengthen your chassis to take reduced/none damage from impacts, or maybe gain health back on close drifts. For now there is only the luck system that will potentially reduce/avoid damage when you're below 3 hp.

Ha, I hope I'll get around to implementing curves... but the foundation of the game is pretty simplistic: only the obstacles are moving. There's quite a bit of rewriting required Q_Q

Appreciate it!
